Two hundred years ago today
May. 27th, 2004 12:29 pmWell, yesterday. Lewis and Clark are making their way slowly upstream against the strong current of the Missouri. They stop at the last white settlement on the frontier, a little village near present-day Marthasville, Warren County, MO. They buy some food, and talk with a trader who'd spent the previous summer trying unsuccessfully to get past the Sioux upstream. Their journals don't say if they know that 70-year-old Daniel Boone, always on the frontier, is living nearby.
