The deli at the Han Kook Supermarket, the Korean market right across the street from this year's Potlatch hotel, made the Chronicle's annual "bargain bites" list. (It's under "HK Super Deli.") So did three other Korean places in the area, one of which was also nearby enough to make the Potlatch local guide. I guess the Chronicle thinks that's all we have to eat that's inexpensive around here.

I have this irrational urge to cry: We're famous!

The Chron acts as if the world ends somewhere around Daly City. Long ago, their 50 best restaurant list used to include Evvia in Palo Alto: as soon as it opened a San Francisco branch they dropped the original, with the explanation that, well, there's a good Greek place in San Francisco now so why bother heading south into the wilderness?

But to balance things out, the Merc usually stops at Sunnyvale.
