calimacSo yes, the mattress deliverers came back on Friday, and with the two extra guys were able to get the old mattress downstairs. Generally they worked with skill and efficiency. But I'd been under the impression that the new box springs (bases, really) were to fit on the old frame, so when the leader started to take that apart, I asked. He said no, they were freestanding, so I asked to take a look at them in the truck before he went any further. He was so scornful of this request (he knew what they looked like, why should I have to understand what I was buying, just because I was the customer?) and reluctant to accede that I was a little unsure how to respond when I got a call afterwards from the vendor asking me to rate the deliverers on a 1-5 scale.
I'm quite aware that 5 is considered the only acceptable rating for these things, so if somebody did a decent job - what I'd rate a 3 on an honest scale, "perfectly OK, nothing spectacular" - I always say 5. If they did a bad job, I'm not going to get asked to rate them, because anybody who'd employ someone who does bad jobs isn't going to care enough to seek customer feedback.
But this time, though they did a good job, on this one matter the guy was so uncooperative that I rated them 4. I'd given thought to filing a complaint about it, so I was serious.
So how's the bed? It's thinner and thus lower than our previous mattress, more like older ones, and it's softer too, but the electronic raise-the-head-and-foot feature works great. B. is getting much better sleep. As for me, my sleep is so erratic I'm not sure. I have simultaneously been issued a Device intended to help me sleep, and after 3 nights of it, all I can say is that when I do fall asleep the Device doesn't seem to create any difficulties. But so far it doesn't help me fall asleep in the first place. My therapist says that my trouble falling asleep is caused by my brain's reluctance to endure the problems the Device is intended to correct and it may take 3 or 4 months to overcome that. Who is this brain anyway, and why have I no control over what it thinks? I'm supposed to check in after a week, and maybe I'll get a report on how well the Device is working, as it sends in electronic data, o brave new world that has such mechanics in it.
