Something does remain. Dick Eney is gone, but his Fancyclopedia II (1959) remains, an epic work preserving an image of 1950s SF fandom in both its magnitude and its trivial details. It ought to be the starting point for any subsequent study of fan language and vocabulary, though too often it's ignored.

And the whole thing is on the web, and has been since 1998. It's one of my oldest bookmarks and I still use it. May they long remain.

You are the first person to mention this. [livejournal.com profile] rwl told me yesterday he died. We didn't know him very well, but I guess those who work for "the company" tend to be like that.
