Did anyone tell Neil Gaiman about this? Because this is exactly what happened to Wanda in his story A Game of You. He didn't exaggerate this level of disrespect and incomprehension.
I posted some years back about a similar level of disrespect to a seriously injured trans woman whose family 'reverted' her whilst she lay deeply unconscious.
I have the protection of a marriage and a supportive brother and his family- many people do not.
