A Tolkien reference that it took me enough effort to track down that I wanted to write about it, but which turned out to be so mindbogglingly trivial that I couldn't bear to do so here. It went straight to the Tolkien Society blog, where they might appreciate it.

Tolkien pops up obliquely in The Late Scholar, Jill Paton Walsh's latest Wimsey/Vine novel. I mention this merely as a datum, not as an incentive; the book tries to be another Gaudy Night (Wimsey! and Vane! in Oxford!) and is so not.

Thanks to the indefatigable Joe R. Christopher, I know about that one. It caused some ruckus in Tolkien fandom for its completely inaccurate portrayal of Tolkien as reluctant to take on female pupils.
