interim report
Apr. 26th, 2014 11:47 pmI'm back after two weeks. Actually I was only gone for one week, mostly in Chicago, but since my return on Easter morn I've been drowned in journal editing and estate executor tasks. Still am, in fact, so you won't be getting much of a report from me yet. Just this:
1) The Popular Culture Association/American Cultural Association conference, as big as a small Worldcon and with more programming, was the first real academic conference not specializing in SF/F that I'd ever been to, though it had a fair amount of discussion of both - it was, in fact, for the newly-founded Tolkien track that I was there. Despite the provenance and the academic cachet, the papers were surprisingly fannish.
2) Not a single scholar I heard would have bought the argument that "The book is still on the shelf" as a reasonable response to complaints about a movie adaptation.
3) Hey there
gerisullivan and
holyoutlaw, I got to Culver's.
