How about attending, with some older people, a memorial service for another older person, who died after a brief but severe illness, and who was furthermore one of your own mentors dating back to your teen years? Then wait for your spouse to come home and tell you how the day's layoffs at work went.

Sympathy. I'm hanging in at my job but not feeling all that great. I was thinking about you last night, Tolkien music and Leon Thomas's jazz masterpiece, "Prince of Peace." I think now may be a good time for writing. Keep on keeping on.
