I admit it, this is obsessive.

Listening to the commentary track of "Conversations with Dead People" (generally considered the finest episode of 7th season Buffy), I was amused to learn from the two credited writers that in fact the four main plotlines of the episode - Buffy and the psychologist vampire, Dawn and the poltergeist, Willow and the fake channeled Tara, and Jonathan and Andrew seeking the seal - were each written by a different person. You have one guess which one of them Joss wrote.

As the plots do not intersect, it occurred to me to watch it again (why not, it's good) with one eye on the DVD time-counter, and tote up the time alloted to each thread. Some of the cuts, particularly in the teaser, are only 6-8 seconds long. One, in the Buffy thread, is six minutes long and crosses a commercial break. Anyway, the whole episode is 42 minutes, including 1 1/2 minutes of opening and closing credits.

Buffy: 12 cuts, 15 1/3 minutes
Dawn: 10 cuts, 9 minutes
Willow: 6 cuts, 7 1/2 minutes
Jonathan and Andrew: 6 cuts, 6 2/3 minutes
Spike: 6 cuts, 1 minute
Bronze (the band, not Spike): 5 cuts, 1 minute
