calimac1. To le petit Trianon for a load of new music from the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. One composer channels Steve Reich, one channels Rimsky and Villa-Lobos, one channels Stefania de Kenessy. If all new music sounded like this, new music wouldn't have a bad reputation. Also, the unjustly neglected Frank Martin. How can you lose? Details in the review.
2. To Schultz Hall to hear two old guys play Schubert's four sonatas for violin and piano. But as these old guys are Jaime Laredo and Leon Fleisher, they know what they're doing. Enough even to overcome the acoustics, which vanish beneath deep and mature consideration of the music.
