Having put Potlatch (mostly) behind me (oh, there's still some postmortem to take care of), I am now trying to address the big push on The Year's Work in Tolkien Studies, before the (shockingly imminent) deadline.

That means no Fogcon for me, unfortunately. With all the other things I have to do, including a review assignment this weekend that's far from the City, I can't afford the time expenditure of even a full day there. It looks interesting, and I'm sure I'd enjoy it, but there's nothing that absolutely positively has my name figuratively on it.

Right now I'm facing the work of a scholar who's made the discovery that Tolkien's chapters set in the woods have a lot of description of forests in them. I must decide how to express the proper surprise and respect for this finding.

Bummer about FogCopn, I was hoping we could talk about Domain Hotel. We do need to get together and talk about the place. I know it will get used again, and any information we can pass on to the next hotel liaison will be appreciated.

Ah, a scholar who does not suffer from an inability to see the wood for the trees :-)

Your 'Year's Work' is always a pleasure to read, and I am sure that we are many who greatly appreciate the effort (and realize how big that effort is).
