1. I've finished stuffing my MP3 player with the complete works of Steeleye Span, and have taken it out on what have proved to be invigorating walks, with Steeleye imparting the energy. I walked, on impulse, two miles to Target to get a better pair of earbuds. If the legs don't wear out first, this will be excellent exercise therapy.

2. The annual task of updating my address list file. I keep worrying about people whose addresses I keep handy, because who knows if I might need them again someday, even though I haven't been in touch with them for years. Are they still there? This year I looked everyone's phone number up in an online database. A few of the numbers now belong to somebody else; I guess their former owners have moved. A few of the numbers proved to be typoed, aak. I hope I didn't mistake any of the latter for the former. A niece has moved to what proved (when we sent Christmas cards out) to be an undeliverable address; are still trying to sort that one out.

3. Made up a batch of hot spiced honey mead for B. and me to sip while watching DVDs. Actually there was enough in the bottle for two batches. One evening we watched Meerkat Manor: great photography of cute meerkats, unbelievably corny storyline narrated by Whoopi Goldberg. For the second evening, we switched to old Firefly episodes: still good.

Based on those annoying things that airplanes used to serve, I didn't like earbuds either. But the new high-quality ones are more comfortable than I thought (and the sound quality is better than that of the less expensive over-ear phones, which are still more expensive than the earbuds). What I picked up at Target was a set by Philips that comes with four different sizes of attachable rubber buds, the part that goes in the ear, so if one doesn't fit, maybe another one will.

I update the address file at year's end because I print it out and paste it in the address pages of my annual datebook, which I still prefer in hardcopy over all the PDAs ever invented.
