In one of those off-topic digressions that enliven his essays on regional eating, Calvin Trillin in the latest New Yorker says that "I'm not someone who finds the Mob romantic - real mobsters are less punctilious than the Corleones, who in three blood-spattered movies managed not to harm anyone who wasn't a criminal himself."
