Kayta Barrows
Nov. 7th, 2010 10:55 amI'd just like to record the death on Sunday morning of a local SF fan, Carolyn Kayta Barrows. She was 61 and had been in very ill health. I last saw her about a year ago at a party, and things were grim even then.
Kayta was a colorful, memorable, and agreeable passing acquaintance whom I would see around at local conventions. I remember her mostly as the perpetrator of one of the cleverest knitting projects I ever did see, an homage to the ridiculously long scarf that Tom Baker wore in his role on Dr. Who. Kayta's version had a little model of Tom Baker's head, dressed as the Doctor, and his hands sticking out at one end of the long scarf, and little feet sticking out the other.
Kayta's friend Carole Parker, who passed the news along, reports that Kayta did lots of crafts, embroidery, and period costuming projects. And that we should all have caramels and butterscotch pudding - Kayta's favorites - in her memory.
