I was beginning to think that this year's announced issue of supplementary geographical quarters was a hoax. I rarely had any trouble picking up the fifty state quarters in my change during the year of their issue or soon afterwards. But this morning, Dec. 18, is the first I've seen of any of the territorial ones, that being the D.C. issue, the first of the six to be issued (and the only one of the six territories I've ever visited).

The D.C. quarter depicts Duke Ellington seated at a piano. It's harder to discern his face on the actual quarter than on the larger reproduction. All right, he's a noted figure, he came from D.C., and it's nice to see music so prominently represented. No complaints.

I like to collect a dollars worth of each new quarter. I got D.C. and Samoa early on, but I've only got two US Virgin Islands and two from Guam. I've only seen one Puerto Rico, and I've yet to see the Mariana Islands.
Apparently, there are some totally redesigned pennies floating around out there, too. Have you seen them?
