I wish to record that at 1:27 p.m. today I heard the first radio ad for a candidate for next year's gubernatorial election. It was for Meg Whitman. "Meg," the announcer said of Whitman (I'll call her by her nickname when I know her better), "has thirty years of experience in business." But, as running a business, where you can fire intransigent subordinates, is nothing like running a government, where you can't fire intransigent legislators, not particularly helpful. No word on how much experience she has in voting for public officials.

However, Whitman does have experience marketing Mr. Potato Head.

You also can’t downsize 20% of the citizens when they prove to be unprofitable.

Nor can you abruptly quit when the job turns out to be boring, unless you're Sarah Palin.
