it's Felix
Jul. 28th, 2009 09:43 amI had a genuinely exciting time finding a concert-going companion for this, involving as it did not only the usual run of regrets but a genuine last-minute cancellation. However,
voidampersand was able to arrive, and we had a Mendelssohn fix together. His Octet is supposedly often played, but I think this is only the third time I've heard it live. Good thing there are recordings; in fact, I have a CD of this piece which is so perfect that all live performances pale by comparison. (Royal and Psophos Quartets, came with BBC Music a few years ago)
Next day, dashed off the review, then to a large, genial social gathering. Arrived with celery and Hawaiian bread, departed with cat food.
