One regular topic of conversation I'd have with my mother was: why was her computer so slow. The web connection in particular would crawl along, but most of the programs were sluggish. Frequently there'd be a warning message that IE, which is the only browser she ever used, was hogging processing space. She'd ask why all this was, and I'd look at the Task Manager and say I couldn't figure it out.
I'm still using her computer while over at her apartment, and today it was worse that ever. I've noticed that IE would appear on Task Manager with multiple copies, even if I was only using one, and that one of them would be hugely bloated in processing space. If I deleted it, another one would balloon in size to take its place.
I got fed up, and I finally did something that I'd never have dared do while she was alive, because it would have worried her so.
I deleted Norton.
Now the computer works just fine.
Why do we pay these agencies hundreds of dollars to make our computers not work right?
