We have just watched The Spiderwick Chronicles.

I feel as if I have now had a lifetime supply of CGI creatures. Please ... no more.

We're about 2/3 the way through The Golden Compass, so I feel your pain. In about 10 years I think the CGI will be good enough we won't notice.

(So far, I think Golden Compass is about as good as a movie of that book could be; too bad it didn't make enough money for the other two volumes to get done. On the other hand, I kind of hope that Prince Caspian will be enough of a clunker to kill the Narnia movies.)

They will never be good enough. Because the problem isn't that they aren't already "good enough" by the standards by which these people measure "good". The problem is the standards. Artificial is not real, Poughkeepsie is not Elfland.

It's gotten so that movies that show up nowadays without CGI are like the time when directors would make the occasional b&w film even though most of the other films were in color. Movies where it's necessary are popular right now because it can be done.

I suspect it doesn't bother me as much as some because I can't see well enough to actually distinguish the CGI from real unless it's REALLY REALLY obvious. (I.e., the sea scene in "The 13th Warrior" or the horrible sabertooth in "10 000 BC".)

That's almost exactly what I've been saying about all the animated movies about penguins. Enough already!
