That reminds me of an old Peanuts comic strip in which Peppermint Patty and Marcie had been to the symphony. In my probably faulty memory, it went something like this: Peppermint Patty was looking dazed, and when someone asked Marcie what was wrong with her, Marcie replied, "We went to the symphony. She's been Mahlered."

It was hearing Janáček’s dirge-like Glagolithic Mass a few years ago that made me want to chew my leg off. When the bass section of the choir started chanting “He is risen. He is risen” it sounded like nothing so much as a Buffy commercial.

I know next to nothing about classical music. For one thing, I have yet to find the fine line between dissonance and cacophony. That concert, however, made my teeth itch.
