I understand that the dentist needs to drill around in my tooth for two hours, but why do I have to be there when it happens? If there were such a thing as an out-of-body experience, now would be the time for it.

Two hours for one tooth? That's horrendous, even (or especially) if it's a root canal, which it sounds like. The only procedure I've ever had that took more than an hour was an extraction that did not go well -- there turned out to be a third root the exrays somehow hadn't picked up.

Actually only 90 minutes of actual drilling plus half an hour of putting things back again. But not including half an hour of prep work from the assistants without the dentist, so I was in the chair from 10 to 12.30.

The one time I've had a root canal, that also took 90 minutes.
