died today, surrounded by family.

She bore grave illness with great fortitude for a long time, and was the same calm, competent person with a cap on her head that she'd been with long brown hair, before chemo.

For an out-of-town visitor, Anita's characteristic posture was bustling around maintaining the Seattle Potlatch hospitality suites, one of those vital tasks of social lubrication that gives pleasure to the people doing it precisely to the degree that it remains invisible. Like Seth Goldberg, Anita was one of those fans who'd rather do the work than be in the spotlight.

But she did get noticed, because such a cultivated, agreeable, and constant presence is always appreciated, and because she was also a great recorder. She kept online diaries and printed incarnations that were a useful and informative record of Seattle fandom. There's something inspirational about that, y'know?

A person like Anita enriches everyone she touches, whether they're aware of it or not.
