A lot of housing in the Bay Area does not have air conditioning. There are a couple of heatwaves every year but then the fog comes in and it cools off a bit. Offices are air conditioned, and in a normal year, a lot of people can get out of the heat by going to work. But now we have a pandemic, and a record acreage of fires, and bad smoke and closed roads. It's miserable.

If you go, in your small fuel-efficient car which you are driving a lot less these days, that's just fine as far as I am concerned. If you must feel guilty about it, you could make a commensurate donation to a political candidate who will do something about climate change.
