I'm putting most of this behind a cut, because it's a spoiler for the first episode of a tv series, and I'm leaving it off of my Blogspot mirror, because that doesn't have cuts.

In response to my recent post complaining about tv series, DGK offers Killing Eve as the best show he's seen on tv for a long time.

As I put in a comment there, it turns out that Killing Eve is on Amazon Prime, though for extra money, so I watched the first episode, which is all I'll have time for right now. I did rather like it: unlike the shows described in my post, it was not too confusing (though the opening scene in the Viennese cafe is completely inexplicable as given without context) and I enjoyed the humorous side which seemed well-integrated (to a point), but there were a lot of things that bothered and nagged at me as well.

1. Alas, Villanelle is an over-the-top movie-plot psychopath, like the ones I complained of when I wrote about Criminal Minds, and the fact that this is noted in the script ("she's showing off") does not excuse it.

2. Eve and her boss seem far too goofball to be responsible officials at MI5, and the fact that they get fired at the end of the episode doesn't excuse that.

3. Much is made of the witness's comment that the assassin was flat-chested. But V isn't flat-chested at all. Is this going to be resolved?

4. V's handler comments that she left her dagger in the body of the Italian victim. What he doesn't mention is that it's got her fingerprints on it. Huge loose end here.

5. We're told four people were killed in the hospital massacre, but who were they? The intended victim, the two guards, and maybe the nurse? Was Dom among them, or was he the person who's seen briefly sticking a head into the room afterwards?

And a couple more loose ends I don't expect to be resolved immediately, but need to be addressed in the future:

6. So the senior officials lied about there being CCTV of the Vienna assassination? Why did they do that? (Also, it's a good thing I could guess what "CCTV" stands for, otherwise the whole thing would be baffling.)

7. When is Eve going to realize that the woman she encountered in the restroom must be the assassin? When is V going to realize that the woman she encountered in the restroom should have been among her victims?

Also, one comment on DGK's description:

8. You write that V is "acting out what the protagonist can't quite admit she'd like to do herself." So is Eve's surprisingly detailed description of how she'd commit murder supposed to be a clue to this? This has the potential to be as ham-handed as BTVS's occasional attempts to claim that Buffy is really a killer at heart.
