Trudeau's cabinet

calimacSo I've seen the articles about the new Canadian cabinet, and how it's gender-parity and otherwise diverse, and I've seen the string of photos of them taking their oaths, and I thought I'd look them up and calculate a few facts:
Of 31,
15 are women
2 are disabled (one paraplegic - bystander shot by a criminal when he was 21 - and one visually impaired)
2 are from what in Canada are called the First Nations
5 are of South Asian descent, of whom 3 are themselves immigrants, and at least 2 are practicing Sikh
only 13 have ever served in the federal parliament before, although several others have been in provincial assemblies
7 have served in previous Liberal federal governments (6 of those are men, and all 7 have served in parliament at least 15 years), and at least 3 others in provincial governments
representatives of all 10 provinces and one territory are included
of the 28 whose ages I have, 4 are in their 30s, 10 in their 40s, 5 in their 50s, and 9 in their 60s, so they're not quite as young a group as some have depicted
at least 2 have sat for other parties in the past; that's not too unusual in Canada
2 (both women) are physicians, 2 (also both women) are scientists (a geologist and a medical geographer), and 3 others (all men) are social science professors
there's also an accountant, a social worker, 7 lawyers (no one's perfect), a newspaper editor, an oboist, and a bus driver who spent time in India imprisoned on suspicion of terrorism
besides Trudeau, the 2 that foreigners are most likely to have heard of are Stéphane Dion, former Liberal party leader, who is now foreign affairs minister, and Marc Garneau, the former astronaut, who is now appropriately Transport minister
