My deep and horrid confusion regarding covers: I prefer Arlo Guthrie singing "City of New Orleans" to Steve Goodman. I feel I should be drummed out of the union of True Folkies for that.
Not the Beach Boys. They have some agreeable songs, but I think of them mostly as purveyors of annoying earworms. Not a 60s group. (My favorite 60s group that isn't the Beatles is the Hollies.)
And I should add: Not a well-known group, either. My estimate is that when its name is mentioned, 90% of people will say "who?" and the other 10% will say, "oh yeah, they're great."
