I don't have an easily reached bookstore that I can rely on for new books; I tend to order online.
I gave up on what was then my local game store years ago, after I got in touch with them to order a new GURPS supplement, weeks in advance, and they accepted the order—and then, when it had been out for a couple of weeks, and not having heard from them, I called, they said, in effect, "We never heard of you."
On the other hand, I have been going to a local comic store for more years than I remember, and I don't think they have gotten an order of mine wrong more than once or twice; they have been very good, for example, at getting A Bride's Story for me. So I'll order from them before looking online, and not worry about whether it might cost more in a particular case; good service has more value in the long run.
