Roger Ebert

What am I going to do without Ebert? No other movie critic was so close to being comprehensive in his coverage, and so reliable and intelligent in his judgments. Whenever I saw a potentially interesting new DVD release coming up, it's Ebert's review I'd go check to see what he thought of it.

Ditto. I didn't always agree he assessments (he gave a lot of movies higher marks than I would have), but I usually did, and even when I didn't he always had something intelligent and thoughtful to say. And he was the author of my single favorite line from a movie review, for the horrible Armageddon (the whole review is an entertaining read, in fact): "The movie is an assault on the eyes, the ears, the brain, common sense and the human desire to be entertained."

Thanks for that! His smackdown of Rob Schneider regarding Deuce Bigalo, European Gigolo is classic.
