I've seen SFS perform Mahler's 9th three times, I think. I'm not a big fan of it. It's just one thing after another, and another, and another, and oh come on. But one performance it all came together and was glorious.

There are a lot of mid-level managers in the Bay Area pulling down $150K or more. I'm not talking CEOs, just ordinary corporate bureaucrats. The SFS musicians are highly skilled, at the top of their field. As you mention, they work really hard. And yet people are surprised and can't understand why they are paid as much as mid-level managers. Personally, I can't understand why mid-level managers are paid so much. They're not hard to replace, and they're not unionized. It seems fishy to me.
