of the day

1. Of course Giffords was going to resign eventually.

2. Of course the 49ers weren't going to make it to the Super Bowl.

3. Newt Gingrich?

4. If Chinese New Year's is on Monday, will all the Chinese restaurants be closed?

It isn't as if there were actually a good Republican in the race. Gingrich, Paul, and Santorum are all, despite their protestations, enemies of constitutional government and constitutional rights. And Romney, who's less radical, is so moderate an establishment Republican than I can't see any payoff in favoring him over Obama. To reverse Goldwater's old saying, Romney is an echo, not a choice. Once again the Republicans are doing their best to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

Personally, I figure on voting for Gary Johnson, assuming he gets the Libertarian nomination. He actually has some serious experience, and unlike the guy who ran in 2008, he actually appears to have libertarian principles, rather than being a disaffected conservative opportunist. Of course I don't imagine you'd have any enthusiasm for Johnson, but even by your standards he might well be less ghastly than the Republicans who are still in the race.

I actually thought the 49ers were going to make it to the Super Bowl and was beginning to feel happy about that. Oh well.
