spacewarming
Jan. 16th, 2012 10:02 amI wouldn't call it a housewarming, because it was only a studio apartment. But it seemed marvelously spacious next to its occupant's previous residence, basically a workroom in the back of a garage whose only advantage was its price and whose main disadvantage was the monoxide leak from the heater. Yes, I know what you're thinking: that's why she moved, in haste.
The building, we're told, is from 1926, and graciously exudes the patina of its age. The apartment is one flight up over a downward slope, and its bright south window overlooks the back garden, where visits from numerous neighborhood cats kept B. enchanted. And from the side of the window, as from the top of Tolkien's tower, you are able to look out upon the sea.
When we arrived, there were four other guests, three of whom we already knew. Gradually more arrived, and the pressure of the increasing crowd slowly and gently pushed us out the door and down the stairs, as per our expectation.
