I read the Malmont recently. It seemed a bit off on Asimov and more so on Heinlein. The relationship between him and Leslyn hadn't gone that sour that early, and Patterson shows him as reluctantly admitting that she was an alcoholic when they were back in Los Angeles. And I'm pretty sure that Hubbard and Parsons had no involvement with each other until after the war ended.
