I didn't do anything to start this; it just happened. Recently, whenever I play a YouTube video - but not videos from other sources - on my computer, the video playback freezes every few seconds for just a moment before continuing. It's really annoying. It doesn't seem to affect the sound, and the freezes are frequent enough and short enough that the sound and visual don't get measurably out of synch. (This has nothing to do with slow file loading: the file can be completely loaded and it still does this.)

Any idea why this happens, and how to get it to stop?

Check to see that all your drivers are up to date.
As well as programs like flash.
Sometime, an older version is just slightly NOT compatible enough to make a difference

"Check to see that all your drivers are up to date."

Thanks, but I have no idea how to do that, or even what it means.

A driver is a file of information that gives the various components of your computer their marching order.
How they handle information, etc.
If you don't know what they are, and your machine is more then two years old, I'm betting a bunch are out of date.

If I had to guess, I'd say you were watching YouTube videos before they were completely "processed". When I upload a video, one can watch it almost as soon as the upload is finished, but it takes an hour or more before it can run smoothly.

Alternately, too many people are trying to download the file at the same time; even a completely loaded file is technically streaming.

Or something else. YouTube is getting dicey about privacy and copyright issues. Maybe they have further checks that are interfering with you.

Dunno how to get it to stop. I just live with minor glitches.

I've been noticing the same thing, have no idea how to stop it. I haven't noticed if it's just YouTube or other sources.
