miscellanea of recent days

2. Replacing the worn drive belt on a vacuum cleaner is the most challenging task I've done this week.
3. At the vet's to buy more of Pandora's prescription food, I showed the clerk the receipt that clearly read "feline" and she asked, "Is that for dogs?" "No," I said, "I believe 'feline' means 'cat.'" To which another customer, trying to be helpful while apparently deaf to irony, said, "Yes, 'feline' does mean 'cat.'"
4. One of the local public libraries has a rare CD with a recording of a Sammartini symphony I don't have. Didn't have, that is.
5. Ave atque vale, or whatever it is, to a couple of minor icons of my youth who have departed from us recently: Henry Gibson ("[A poem], by Henry Gibson") and Mary Travers of Peter Paul And.
