concert review: Music@Menlo
May. 10th, 2011 05:29 pmStuffed with Mother's Day brunch (rack of lamb and poached salmon, among others) and a mimosa, I idled over to Menlo for a late-afternoon concert. Owing to the circumstances and time of day, it was a little more difficult than usual to pay close attention. Fortunately the musicians had no such problem. They were all keyed up and raring to go. "Great Piano Quartets" consisted of one great piano quartet (Schumann's), one potentially great but hazardous quartet (Mozart's G-minor), and one cuckoo in the nest in the form of a string trio (by Beethoven). Don't judge the repertoire by the label, I guess. Anyway, I managed to eke out a review.
