The usual metaphor is "wear two hats," but I literally wore two shirts in my fairly diverse day.

First up to the City for a meeting and publicity gathering to discuss and promote Potlatch, our little upcoming SF-literature convention, and if you aren't attending, why not? We were gathered around the tables at Borderlands Cafe, the one with an SF bookstore of the same brand next door, drinking tea and eating plates of ... those are either very tiny tomatoes or very large olives. Our intrepid chair had suggested that committee members wear t-shirts from previous Potlatches, most of which are black with Freddie Baer illustrations on them. I had on B's from the first Potlatch twenty years ago, designed by Stu Shiffman before Freddie Baer was invented.

Then I had to leave early to rush off to work, viz. to drive 30 miles to attend and then review this concert, which was more fun to write about than it was to listen to.* I didn't really feel like sporting a Potlatch t-shirt to this fairly formal and decidedly seriously-priced event, so when I reached my car a block away - expecting the press of time when leaving, I'd invested some amount of time when arriving to seek a nearby space, open parking being both rare and evanescent in the Mission - I simply tucked my t-shirt in, put on over it a dress shirt I'd brought along, one dark enough that a black t-shirt wouldn't be conspicuous beneath it, tucked that in too, took off my hat, and presto, I was ready to turn from serious literature to serious music.

*NB reference in last paragraph to pianist Peter Asimov, and before you ask, the answer is "yes." He is son of Eric, son of Stan, Isaac's younger brother.
