(surface travel only, no plane flights over Greenland or suchlike counted, unless you landed there)

This meme inspired by a brief conversation with [livejournal.com profile] shikzoid about black sand beaches in Hawaii, and associated conversations in which Alaska, Rome, and Wales all came up.

1. Farthest north: The Chilkoot Pass north of Skagway, Alaska (59 degrees N)
1a. Farthest north outside of North America: St. Andrews, Scotland (56 degrees N)

2. Farthest south: near Punaluu Black Sand beach, on the island of Hawaii (19 degrees N)
2a. Farthest south in North America: somewhere in the Florida Everglades (25 degrees N)
2b. Farthest south outside the U.S.: Ciudad Juarez, Mexico (31 degrees N)
2b. Farthest south outside the U.S. or North America: Catacombs on the Appian Way near Rome (41 degrees N)

East and west are manageable assumptions because I haven't traveled around the world:
3. Farthest east: Assisi, Italy (12 degrees E)
3a. Farthest east in North America: I don't remember exactly, but probably somewhere around Augusta, Maine (69 degrees W)

4. Farthest west: Waimea Canyon, island of Kauai, Hawaii (159 degrees W)
4a. Farthest west in North America: Margerie Glacier, Glacier Bay, Alaska (137 degrees W)
4b. Farthest west outside the U.S.: not counting the Chilkoot Pass again (135 degrees W), for I did cross the Canadian border there: Nanaimo, B.C. (123 degrees west)
4c. Farthest west outside the U.S. or North America: Caernarfon, Wales (4 degrees W)

How far have you travelled?
