As always, interesting writing on your part. I must admit I was just stunned by the re-invention of Nixon as elder statesman of the GOP in the years before his passing. Did these people not remember the crazy antics of his from the 50s and the 60s? But, then, I haven't had much respect for the party since the late 70s. My family did vote for Goldwater for President, and then for Bo Callaway as GA governor (but Lester Maddox won), and then later for Fletcher Thompson vs. Sam Nunn as Senator. The fact that I wore "Go Bo!" buttons to school and later supported Thompson was viewed with deep suspicion by many of my classmates (the ones who thought, at any rate), of course. :)
