That may be why it doesn't appeal to the fantasy reader in me. When I read, I'm an audience. An active audience, to be sure - I think, react, comment, analyze, even make additions. But I'm not trying to write the original story. To me, the point of reading a novel is that the author is a better storyteller than I am, otherwise why bother?
