Speaking of what counts as a bowed instrument, I have heard bowed piano music. A lot of people gather around the soundboard and play the strings with tiny bows. It sounds extremely weird. I have played recordings of this and challenged people to guess what instrument it is. Even trained musicians have no idea. This is it.
