The problem with the acting is that they are trying to portray archetypes, not actual characters. And they keep changing. The younger male is Cain and there are many murder references throughout. It's pretty surreal with talk of extinct creatures like mammoths and ice ages. I enjoyed reading it as a teenager. I loathe it now.
