One of the movie's points is that Julie's character has no trouble setting up her career. I think this is intended to be seen as negative - ruthless ambition - but it shouldn't be. I agree she'd be best off staying with the gay photographer. He's far more fun than any of her boyfriends, and he doesn't want to seduce her, which should be fine by her because she makes clear on several occasions that she doesn't really like sex.
