You know the scene near the beginning of the Stardust movie where Trist(r)an is dragging a reluctant Yvaine along behind him? That's pretty much myself and B. going to see that very film yesterday. Rather wait for the video and watch the film at home without audience interruption, at less expense, and with a cat on the lap, she would.

But some films are worth taking the trouble to see in the theatre, especially when the theatre is only a mile away, and I trusted all of you who'd given this one rave reviews. My trust was verified; we came out of this one very happy. Great cinema, no. But an enjoyable fantasy flick, yes.

IMO Robert DeNiro's acting chops blow the rest of the cast away. I'd just like to add that I recognized Mark Strong, who plays Septimus: he was the lumpish Mr. Knightley next to Kate Beckinsale's Emma.

ETA: In completely unrelated film news, the viewer poll award for all-time least convincing screen romance goes to ... aw, come on, you have one guess.
