They're pretty strict about expecting even pool members to pay attention (not to speak of those actually on juries: a juror on the Theranos trial was just dismissed for playing Sudoku during testimony), on the theory that you need to know what the judge says to other candidates about the rules of procedure and how questions are to be answered. But what good is that, if you can't hear what's being said half the time?

Thanks to the records formed by my blog posts, I know that this is the first time I've been on jury call for ten years, and the last time I never actually got called in at all. I just had to wait for a week and not go away anywhere.
