Regarding Mirrlees, you could have seen a picture of her by going to the Wikipedia article. I know about the limitations of W. as a primary (or even secondary) source; but there are gems to be found there. I did not (for example) know that Mirrlees had written two other books of fiction until I looked at that article -- though I have not yet gotten up the energy (and money) to seek out copies.
