There's actually quite a lot of news articles right now on both topics you raise: variants that don't respond to the vaccines and what's going on in the rest of the world. The fact is, though, we've already reached the point in the US where such variants could arise *here*. I mean, the predominant variant in the US right now is from the UK, for heaven's sake. The West could definitely pour out a zillion variants to Asia.
I'm still trying to figure out my balance of activities, because I'll be fully vaccinated in a month. I'm keeping my eye on the community transmission level here, which seems to me to be more important than my individual vaccination status; one out of twenty chances of getting the virus (even leaving aside the variants) doesn't strike me as good odds in a pandemic.
