It took a couple of tries, but I became deeply enamored of "Hamilton," and still consider it masterful. My own take is that the song "My Shot" is the best single entry-point, although the musical does build itself in complex ways, and I think it works best as a whole. Given your reaction to "My Shot" I'm thinking I'm not really wrong about it being a good gauge of whether or not this work is a fit for an individual.

I already loved the music, and the movie was revelatory. I had heard that the choreography was amazing, and I certainly found it so. But, in the end, the thing that always gets me is how amazingly word-drunk the play is. And the way some words, especially "shot" and "time" move through the poetry in ways that are subtle and contextual, and reconfigure one's understanding as they are deployed in different ways and in different musical motifs.

I'm sorry that you didn't like it.
