Watching sf con panels on online video doesn't much appeal to me either.
I've long watched/listened to YouTube videos of specific musical works I wanted to hear for one reason or another, and still do; but going to a concert is a different kind of experience for me, and I've been less inclined to try it online. Play-going, which is an occasional activity for me, works with modern video production values if they performance is good enough.
I rarely do opera, so I don't know how that would work. I'd have to wait for someone to put on an opera I really want to see, and I could wait a long time for that.
