Having not seen The Jetsons in over 50 years, I'd forgotten about that. But it makes sense.
The general usefulness of the El is the reason that Chicago is the only city where I have ever left the airport (both airports) on long layovers to go into town for dinner.
However, if I were doing a layover at SFO (not going to happen unless I move), I'd consider doing it with BART now. The idea of walking out of the terminal and half an hour later being a two-block walk from Tadich's ... pretty cool.
