The week that Diamond died, the Seattle Symphony added a performance of the balcony scene from his Romeo and Juliet at the beginning of its regularly-scheduled concerts. It fit in well with the rest of the program: Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber, Avro Part's Lamentate, and Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra. Diamond was the Honorary Composer in Residence at the Seattle Symphony.

I hadn't much cared for the Diamond I'd heard up to that point, but it was a wonderful performance, and I found myself wondering if my problems with his music had stemmed as much from inattention on my part as anything else. Then again (o shameful admission), it's possible that I had confused Diamond with some other contemporary composer championed by Gerard Schwarz.
